Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar Disorder is a mood condition characterized by significant shifts in mood, energy, and activity levels. Individuals may experience episodes of depression as well as periods of elevated or irritable mood known as mania or hypomania.
These mood shifts are more intense than normal emotional ups and downs and can substantially impact judgment, relationships, work performance, and daily functioning. Bipolar disorder is a medical condition that requires careful and ongoing management.
Signs & Symptoms:
- Alternating periods of depression and mania/hypomania
- Mania: elevated mood, high energy, impulsivity, decreased need for sleep
- Depression: low mood, fatigue, loss of interest
- Irritability or anger outbursts
- Impaired judgment or risky behaviors
